Troy, Michigan Milestone Photo Sessions

Photographing the Schlick family from maternity and beyond.

I have had the honor of capturing some beautiful moments with dear family friends as their family has grown over the years. From their initial maternity and newborn sessions as the girls turned one and two years old. It was an absolute joy to document each milestone for them.

During the maternity photo session, we focused on showcasing Audrey’s glowing beauty and capturing the excitement of the impending arrival of a new family member. We chose Firefighter’s Park in Troy, Michigan, for its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful views. I encouraged Audrey to wear something comfortable and flattering, and we worked together to find poses and angles that showcased her belly.

When the girls arrived, we scheduled their Newborn Session and headed back to Firefighter’s Park. Nothing makes me smile like photographing the precious moments of a dear friend's children, especially in this bleary-eyed phase of parenthood.

I strive to create a story through my photos that reflect each family's unique personalities and dynamics. Whether it's a playful moment between siblings or a tender embrace between parents, I aim to capture these intimate moments with a photojournalistic style.

My approach to family photography is a style known as documentary family photography, which involves capturing real-life moments as they unfold without any posed shots or staged scenes. This style is particularly effective at showcasing the personalities and interactions of family members in a natural and authentic way.

The best gift you can give to your photographer is to invite them back to document your life. Every year I look forward to hanging out with Audrey, Steve, and the girl.

Kate
