Photographing A Year in the Life
Commerce Township, Michigan Family Photo Session
This March, I had the pleasure of photographing the Alderton’s First Year in the Life session of 2021. It was a blast to hang out with Ashlan, Jeff, Olive, and Molly. We started the morning off with some painting. It was funny to see Jeff have a mild panic attack with the mess being made. They are expecting baby number 2 this July. Ashlan, with her tiny baby bump, was so adorable. After snack time, Ashlan and Olive made cookies. Then it was time for me to go. It went by so quickly.
The second session for the Aldertons as a family of three. Next time I see them I will photograph their baby girl's arrival. It was magical photographing this time for them. It has been a time of a lot of growth and milestones. They recently moved from their 600-square-foot home into a beautiful house equipped with beautiful gardens down the road from the beach.
We photographed half their session at the beach, and since it was a steamy Michigan evening, it was a welcome reprieve from the heat.
The Alderton's welcomed Miss Lilly Mae this past July, and I had the pleasure of photographing them shortly after her arrival for their third Year in the Life photo session. There's always a time of transition for a big sister and a little sister. It is so beautiful to see Olive be a big sister to Lilly.
My last Year in the Life Session was a bitter-sweet ending to 2021. I have had the pleasure of documenting the Alderton Family through the year as they said goodbye to tiny homes, hello to a new baby, and new beginnings. It has been an honor to witness this beautiful life they are building.
During their Year in the Life sessions, Ashlan’s vulnerability in motherhood has been so amazing to photograph. You see her go from a mom of one to two, her beautiful pregnant belly on display. You see Olive go from only child to big sister and Jeff to a full-blown girl Dad.
Thank you, Alderton Family, for welcoming me into your home and trusting me with your story. Being a part of your story has been an honor and a privilege. As our friendship grows, I look forward to seeing how your girls grow and your life blossoms.
