5 Unique Activities to Do During Your Summer Documentary Family Photo Session

I don’t know about you, but my mom had stacks and stacks of photos from my childhood.  Let’s be clear; zero are from a studio or a professional session.  These are photos of bathtime, eating cake in my diaper, and there may or may not be one of me fishing with my dad.  All wonderfully thought out, and I love my mom, but the execution wasn’t great.  To be fair, the 80’s options for photography weren’t amazing.  Anywhoots, I love the memories that were captured.

Flash forward to today, we have so many options for capturing memories, and a documentary session is the perfect way to combine both worlds!  Still, the day-to-day activities that are being captured but with newer technology that can fully execute!  I want you and your family to have the same opportunities for the memories that I have, so I’ve put together five fun family day ideas for your documentary family session!

Splash Day

Splash Day is a perfect activity for a summer session!  There’s no need to pack up for a beach or pool day. Instead, let’s just turn a sprinkler on in the backyard and have some good ol fashioned fun. Sprinklers, a slip-n-slide, or even a water balloon fight are all ways to incorporate each member of the family. However you decide to participate, there is room for all to be involved!

Picnic Day

Grab your blanket and your basket, and let’s have a picnic! This is another great activity that can be done in multiple places.  If we need to stay home and picnic it up in the yard, let’s do it!  If we have a favorite picnic spot, cool!  I’ll meet you there! Picnics are wonderful because they bring everyone closer together…literally!

Nature Walk

If you have an exceptionally curious family, a nature walk is a great activity for you!  These walks are perfect for bug collectors, stick finders (this includes our four-legged friends!), and animal watchers! There are so many great trails in our area that will make for fun walks and beautiful backdrops for your photos!  So, grab your butterfly net, your bug jar, and your binoculars, and let’s go for a walk!

Ice Cream Date

If your session happens to fall on a hot summer's day, let’s go get ice cream!  There are SO many cute ice cream shops here that would be great for a session! My personal favorite is (add your favorite ice cream shop and link). Grab a cup or cone of your favorite flavor and just enjoy the moment!  Sticky kisses, ice cream giggles, and some nice chit-chat are just what we need for this session!

A Trip to the Park

If your kids are loving the park right now, then your best bet is to embrace the love!  Plan your session for a trip to the park!  Grab some coffee and let your littles do their thing!  There are so many activities to do at the park, and even better, these activities are GREAT for photos!  The movement that is created from swings, slides, and just the overall movement from one activity to another is going to create the most stunning images!  Embrace a day at the park!

Friends, it doesn’t matter where you decide to go, you will be with your family, and that is all that matters!  Embrace the day, the messy, and the memories that are being created! These moments are the ones they will remember and the ones that you will wish you still had.

If you’re ready to create memories, let’s hop on a call and chat about what you and your family would like to do for an activity! To schedule your session, click the link below!
