Why Should You Book Your Documentary Family Session NOW
If you haven’t booked your documentary family session for this fall, what are you waiting for?!
Yes, I know it’s August, and yes, I know school hasn’t even started yet, but most photographers' fall schedules are already booked. If you haven’t already, here are four reasons to book your session NOW! Like literally….click the link and let’s go!
Find the right photographer.
Finding the perfect photographer is almost like winning the lottery. Someone who understands your family’s needs and wants, all the while capturing the beautiful mess that is yours. Here’s the catch, your perfect photographer is also the perfect photographer for many other families. I know you have quite a bit on your plate, but if you have found your perfect photographer, don’t wait to book your session! If you haven’t found them yet, I promise they’re out there. It just takes time to find them.
Preference of date with limited space
For me, I only take two documentary sessions a month. TWO. I know I am not the only photographer who takes a set number of sessions a month. Booking earlier in the year gives your a preference on a date. This is helpful when you have an event, a holiday, or a theme that you want at a specific time. So instead of waiting until you think about scheduling, keep an eye out for when a photographer releases their schedule. More on this later. Knowing when they are opening their calendar gives you a headstart on your preferred date!
Test run clothes
One of the best things about a documentary session is its causal nature. These are not formal photos, and thankfully, your clothes don’t have to be formal either! This could mean dressing up some jeans with a sweater and cute boots or dressing down those jeans with a flannel and sneakers. Regardless, you get to decide! Scheduling your session in advance means you have more time test run as many outfits as you want to find that one perfect outfit that gives you that extra boost of confidence for your session! When you feel extra confident during your session, you are more present rather than focusing on the fit of your clothes. Test runs are also great for our friends with sensory processing disorders. Time to adjust to new fabrics or even find a new outfit is a great way to prepare!
Gives you time to prepare your Family
This one is 100% dependent on you and your family. Some families do better with information. Others don’t. If your family does great with information, then planning a session in advance gives everyone time to prepare, and that may look different for every family. Some families may want to go over ground rules, scope out the location to take the newness off or meet with the photographer so your kiddos can get to know them. This may not work for your family, and that is totally ok! You know your family best and what they do and don’t need!
My Calendar is open.
For photographers, their calendar is their gold. If you aren’t getting their newsletter, sign up and follow them on social media. Not on my email list yet? You can sign up here! These are the two easiest ways for them to communicate with you that they are releasing their calendars. When you see that coveted email/post/story of a photographer announcing that they have opened their calendars, run to get your spot. Finding the perfect photographer that can capture your family in all of its amazing essence is a true gift and one that you should hold onto for as long as you can. In the next few weeks, if it hasn’t happened already, you’ll start to see more and more calendars open up. Make sure you set every alarm you need to to get your spot!
I know booking a session doesn’t seem that intense, well, that is, until you can’t find a photographer with an open session. Friends, if you’re wanting an apple/pumpkin picking session or any other session, now is the time to book it. Check with your photographer to see what their availability is.
As for mine, you can click here to find my availability. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask! I can’t wait to see you soon!
