5 Ways to Use Pinterest as a Search Engine to Promote Your Business

How do we feel about Pinterest?  Do you love it as a user but don’t want to incorporate your business?  Are you active as a user and as a business owner?  Or are you on the “Is Pinterest still a thing?” train?  Regardless of where you are, I am here to help!  Utilizing your business on Pinterest is STILL, you heard me right, a thing!  What makes it even better, Pinterest creates growth for your business and your website!  How should you be using Pinterest?  Here are five ways Pinterest can promote your business!

Users aren’t Being Social

Let me yell it from the rooftops for all photographers to hear; USERS AREN’T ON THERE TO BE SOCIAL! People who get on Pinterest aren’t looking to share. They are just looking!  Looking for inspiration for something; party themes, family clothing, and gift guides. There are on this platform for a specific problem, and we want you to be the solution!

Based on Keyword Searches

One of the major benefits of Pinterest is that it isn’t like other social media platforms.  The content provided isn’t based on likes, shares, or saves. Instead, your content is based on keyword searches.  How well you describe your pin is how easy it will be for someone to find.  Quick tip, as you begin to post your content, be as descriptive as possible. The goal is to have your pin found, regardless of how it is searched for.

Beneficial for Specific Locations

Along with keywords, you can include your locations in your descriptions. Using locations in descriptions is another way for your ideal client to find you!  If you’re a photographer in Nashville and are looking to build your family portfolio, include Nashville Family Photographer in the description.  The good news is, there isn’t a limit!  So you can include a variety of ways to phrase your location (Nashville, Nashville, Tn., Nashville, Tennessee, Lower Broadway, etc.).

Build a Foundation as an Expert

One of my favorite features of Pinterest is that I can follow the accounts that I find helpful and informative.  What does that mean for you as a photographer?  You can be helpful and informative in areas other than photography! Family photographers can also pin restaurants in the area, the top ten must-sees in the area, and what to know before you go.  Family photographers can pin items that are helpful to families.  For example, 5 rainy day activities, a 30-minute or less meal plan round-up, and how to keep your family calendar organized.  When you establish yourself as an expert, your ideal client will lean on you for more than just what to wear and be more inclined to share all your information within their circle.  Build a village to support your people!

Promotes Your SEO

Now for the selfish side of Pinterest.  Each time a user clicks through your pin, it takes them directly back to your website.  Why is this awesome?!  Because it strengthens your SEO!  As your SEO increases, not only will you rank higher on Pinterest, but you will also rank higher on other search engines (Google) as the traffic to your website increases.  So, basically, if someone clicks through to your website through Pinterest to see your family gift guide, it will promote your website to the family that is searching for their local family photographer.  This is a win/win, and doesn’t love a win/win when it comes to conquering SEO?!

I know Pinterest can seem daunting, but trust me, as you find your groove, it becomes much, MUCH easier.  Pinterest is a place for you to establish yourself as an expert and grow your reach.  Use it accordingly and without fear!  However, if Pinterest still seems like a scary place, just know I am here to help!
