How to prepare your family for your summer session.
Summer Sessions in Michigan
I don’t know about you, but I am happy to see some sunshine. Watching my kids play on their trampoline while I feel the warmth on my face is something that I cherish at the beginning of every spring…and then summer comes. Just as much as I dread the cold and gray, I also dread the ticks and the humidity of summer. Preparing for Michigan summer photo sessions can be a bit tricky, but don’t worry! I have put together all of my tips for summer sessions to make sure you and your family are ready to go for your summer family session!
Sunscreen - I cannot stress this enough, please practice safe sun. That’s before your session (sunscreen, switch your watch every few days, evenly shade your face, etc.), during your session (lather those babies up before you get to me), and after (just for good practice).
Shoes - The majority of these summer sessions are outdoors and in nature. While I love a great sandal, that’s just a portal for rocks, dirt, and even some creepy crawlies to get into. If your little one hates to have things in their shoes, consider a closed-toe for the session.
The bugs - …speaking of. Let’s talk bugs. Ticks, mosquitoes, and other bugs are thriving this time of year. Where better to feast than on your calves, arms, neck, and allll the other places? Prior to your session, I suggest everyone get a nice dose of bug spray, and after
Timing - I love summer sessions and all that comes with them. I love the warm light, how green everything is, and I love that we have longer days. Longer days usually mean a change in the times for our sessions. If your little ones are early risers, then sunrise sessions are best! Trust me; you still get the warm light of the sunrise that creates that beautiful golden glow! If your kids are more evening kids, then an evening session is your cup of tea! A helpful hint, push your nap time to a little later in the day to allow for a later bedtime, as well as adjust meals and snack times.
Food and Water - Regardless of when your session is, I highly suggest that everyone comes fed to their session. No hangry little ones! Bring some water to stay hydrated and nonsticky or nonstaining snacks and drinks (trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, and water) will help make sure those clothes stay fresh. Trust me, with these later shoots, the hanger is legit. Stay ahead of it with a full tummy!
If you’re anything like me, you are just as excited for summer as I am. I just want to make sure you are prepared for all that comes with the warmer weather.
